Canadian Pride
The Closure of the 2010 Winter Olympics, February 28th 2010
There was no better way for the Canadian’s to bid their farewells to the games than by seeing their favourite men’s hockey team win a big shiny gold medal, proving to the American’s that they are the world's number one.
After the final game of the 2010 winter Olympics had finished, I took a walk in to the city centre as I wanted to meet Adam when he finished work. As I approached the centre, so did every other Vancouverite. The city was completely jam packed, but nobody was trying to get anywhere or needed to do anything (apart from myself). People were just happy to roam around and revel in the success of their country’s achievements. It was wonderful to see such a display of sheer delight and merriment. Everybody was wearing some form of Canadian attire but mostly people were showing off a splash of red, so from a visual perspective it was incredibly exciting also. I perched on a concrete curb for nearly half an hour , happily absorbing the atmosphere and taking photograph after photograph.
Eventually I made it to Adam’s shop where he was safely cocooned inside a shopping mall and was yet to realise the jollifications of the outside world.
